DBA stands for "doing business as" and can refer to a business name that is different from the legal name of the business or individual:  A DBA does not provide legal protection for the business name. To protect the business name at a federal level, an entity name or trademark can be applied for. ​

LLC (Includes LLP)

LLC stands for Limited Liability Company, which is a business structure that combines the limited liability of a corporation with the pass-through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship.  LLC members can be individuals, corporations, other LLCs, or foreign entities. PA allow single-member LLCs.

LLP stands for Limited Liability Partnership, which is a business structure that combines aspects of a partnership and a corporation: ​LLPs are often used by licensed professionals. In an LLP, the business entity doesn't pay federal income taxes on its profits. Instead, the profits and losses are passed through to the owners' tax returns.
